Latinidad in the Queer Archive of South Texas

This research project focuses on a specific era in South Texas queer history, the decade between Stonewall (1969) and the beginning of the HIV/AIDS Epidemic (1981). What were the 70's to LGBTQ+ San Antonians? In particular, what was the experience of queer San Antonians of color in this era?

Through an oral history of LGBTQ+ elders, this research seeks to document an untold history, learn about our collective history, and bolster our understanding of marginalized yet resilient queer lives.

The queer archive is incomplete, and Latinx queer voices are doubly missing. This research brings the voices and perspectives of Latinx queer elders into the archive so that we can better understand our past and build a new future.
